First Day Hike on the North Shore

Explore a nearby state park on New Year's Day for a great start to the year!

First Day Hikes take place at nearby State Parks nationwide on New Year's Day. The annual hike originated more than 20 years ago at the Blue Hills Reservation in Massachusetts. The program was launched to promote both healthy lifestyles throughout the year and year-round recreation at state parks. On the North Shore, there will be First Day hikes at Bradley Palmer State Park and Breakheart Reservation.

Bradley Palmer State Park First Day Hike

Meet at the headquarters of Bradley Palmer for their first day hike starting at 10am! Join DCR staff for a guided hike on a one or three mile trek along the Universal Access Interpretive Trail. Use your senses to observe winter bird song and signs and tracks left by forest residents. Afterwards, enjoy refreshments served by Willowdale Estate inside the fabulous Bradley Palmer Arts and Crafts Mansion! For more information please call (617) 828-1728.

Breakheart Reservation First Day Hike

Breakheart Reservation will begin at noon and participants are invited to enjoy chowder, coffee and cocoa! Join DCR staff for a guided hike on a one or three mile trek along the Universal Access Interpretive Trail. Use your senses to observe winter bird song and signs and tracks left by forest residents.
